New Mum’s Classes

Empowering New Mums with Gentle, Supportive Pilates

Carshalton Pilates classes for new mums takes place Tuesday morning at 9:30am. As with most Prenatal Pilates classes you should wait until your 6-week check up before coming back or starting to exercise. Be mindful of how you feel, you may need to take more rest if you are recovering from C-Section, or have experienced mastitis or any pelvic infections.

The focus of this class is to gently improve pelvic stability and abdominal integrity. So, we leave out curl ups or any exercises that could hinder the reduction of diastasis recti and create doming. We will not use leg weights but will use the body’s own resistance. We will however utilise props such as resistance bands, light hand weights, the Pilates circle and foam rollers. A relaxing meditation session at the end of the class supports your overall wellbeing.

As with all our Women’s Pilates classes, the small class size of 10 ladies provides a friendly space to come and workout and be part of the new mums community support at the Good Shepherd Church Hall. It’s important that any teacher holding prenatal and postnatal Pilates classes (or any fitness class, for that matter!) is qualified to work with women during and after pregnancy. Sue holds a Level 3 Active IQ qualification  in Supporting Pre and Postnatal Clients with Exercise and Nutrition, this includes programming safe and effective sessions and understanding the impact of pregnancy and childbirth on the body.
