Standard mat work Pilates classes are held Monday & Thursday evenings, in Carshalton Beeches. These classes are specifically targeting fitness for women.
In these classes you can expect a good all round body work out focussing on arms, legs, bums and tums. Each week is different, giving you plenty of variety. You will get to experience the benefits of using props to enable you to enhance your workout, props include foam rollers, hand & ankle weights, gliders, the wall, resistance bands, Pilates rings, soft Pilates balls and booty band.
The mat workout will include some standing exercises, kneeling on all fours, lying on the back, the side of the body and on the front of the body. All exercises can be modified for beginners and those working with injuries or for those whose body blueprint means they are not as flexible as they would like to be, but that is fine, there is always an option to be found to ensure you get the most out of the class and enjoy a safe workout. Mat work is perfect Pilates for Mums of all ages and my local Pilates mat work classes attract women generally between 30 – 60 years of age.
Pilates has many benefits, including improvement to posture, supporting back health and decreasing back pain, developing core strength, flexibility improvement, mobility and coordination. Pilates can help with the development of bone density, which reduces as we age and is safe for those with osteopenia or osteoporosis if the teacher is qualified to work with these conditions.
